Internal Medicine Specialist (General Physician), Final year Addiction Medicine Specialist Advanced Trainee

Dr Shelley is an Internal Medicine Specialist in the final stages of completing her Addiction Medicine Specialist training through the Royal Australian College of Physicians, complementing her extensive experience in General and Acute Adult Medicine. She will be the only Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine Specialist in Queensland. 

Dr Shelley undertook her six-year physician specialty training across premier institutions, including Sunshine Coast, Mater Hospital Brisbane and Gold Coast University Hospital. She is furthering her expertise with an additional two years of Addiction Medicine training. She has extensive experience in Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, and Acute Care Medicine, bringing a well-rounded approach to managing complex cases.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr Shelley is an Adjunct Fellow at the University of Queensland, collaborating with The National Centre for Youth Substance Use Research. Her academic contributions support advancements in understanding and treating substance use disorders, particularly in youth.

A strong advocate for delivering gold-standard medical care to those with substance use disorders and co-occurring psychological conditions, she recognises the critical importance of addressing both physical and mental health in an integrated manner. Her approach ensures that these, often underrepresented patient groups receive comprehensive, high-quality care. She takes pride in offering centralised, coordinated care, empowering her patients to achieve better health outcomes and improved quality of life.
