Dr James Goldstein is an Addiction and General Adult Psychiatrist with a sub-specialist interest in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). He is the Director of TMS and Day Programs at Currumbin Clinic and the Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee.

Dr Goldstein completed his medical degree at the University of London, before moving to Australia to undertake his psychiatric training. He uses an individualised, holistic approach to a persons’ treatment, supporting them through their recovery journey. He tries to consider all aspects of a persons’ life and how it impacts on their mental health.

In addition to his generalist psychiatric training, Dr Goldstein undertook Advanced Training at the Black Dog Institute in Sydney, investigating Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and other emerging novel agents for the treatment of mental illness. He has co-authored papers investigating TMS and Transcranial Electrical Stimulation (TES). He continues to be passionate about TMS as the Director of TMS services for Currumbin Clinic and the Bangalow Consulting rooms. He is also member of the International Clinical TMS Society.

Dr Goldstein completed two years of subspecialist training in Addiction Psychiatry and developed interests in novel treatments for addiction, as well as the interplay between a persons’ psychological and physical vulnerabilities that take a person on the path to addiction.

Dr Goldstein provides outpatient TMS services at both his Bangalow Rooms and at Currumbin Clinic. He also treats addiction and general adult inpatients and outpatients at Currumbin.
